January 21, 2017
Downtown Kirkwood businesses are marking down prices on winter merchandise, planning to share their creativity and talents with visitors, and offering opportunities to win gift certificates on Saturday, January 21. The new Snowflake Sale Winter Clearance Event is intended to be a winter version of Downtown Kirkwood’s popular Sidewalk Sale which occurs every July.
Many locally owned shops and boutiques will be offering deep discounts on their winter merchandise to clear the way for their spring selections. These businesses, as unique as snowflakes, will also share their talents through demonstrations, tours and tastings. For example, Rusted Chandelier will demonstrate how to make a perfect bow and sammysoap will be offering tours of their soap making facility. Look for a large snowflake on the door of participating merchants.
Local artist Jo Ann Kargus will host a creative coloring session for adults and sign copies of her new adult coloring book of St. Louis scenes and landmarks titled St. Louis Splendor. These sessions will be offered from 10 a.m.-noon at Kirkwood Train Station, 110 W. Argonne. During the coloring sessions and throughout the day, food donations for Kirk Care will be accepted at the Kirkwood Train Station. Kirk Care is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization formed by the Kirkwood Ministerial Alliance. Its mission is to help the needy who live within the boundary of the Kirkwood R- 7 School District.
Visitors will also have the chance to win more than $500 of gift certificates and gift cards from Downtown Kirkwood businesses. Numerous twenty-five dollar certificates will be hidden in colorful mittens and placed in the displays of participating merchants. The certificates will be randomly placed so the gift card included in the mittens differs from the business where it is placed.
