We’re excited to have you visit beautiful Downtown Kirkwood. You’ll find free all-day parking on most parking lots on Saturdays and Sundays and free two-hour parking in many public lots and most streets. Walk, bicycle, or jog down the flower-lined streets of Downtown Kirkwood. These amenities along with the unique and historic storefronts in the district enhance the experience of passersby. The streets and sidewalks of Downtown Kirkwood are equally friendly for families with children as well as those with disabilities or special needs.

Visit Kirkwood

Spanning sixteen square blocks, Kirkwood, Missouri is a charming, pedestrian friendly city filled with turn-of-the-century buildings and more than 100 specialty shops and restaurants, as well as a Farmers' Market with an abundance of local produce, specialty food items and plants for sale. Kirkwood is also home to The Magic House, St. Louis Children's Museum with hundreds of hands-on exhibits for visitors of all ages including favorites like the electro-static generator that makes your hair stand on end, a three-story slide, and a pretend Children's Village. 

Has a family stay-cation crossed your train of thought lately? Then why not consider a train-cation to beautiful downtown Kirkwood? Hop aboard an Amtrak train and make tracks for downtown Kirkwood for a day of shopping, dining and entertainment that the whole family is sure to enjoy. There's also a direct train that you can take to or from Kirkwood that travels the route up to Chicago.  The graphic below shows the other Missouri train stops.

The Magic House, St. Louis Children's Museum

The Magic House is a not-for-profit participatory museum that provides hands-on learning experiences for children and families that encourage participation, experimentation, creativity and the development of problem-solving skills within a place of beauty, wonder, joy and magic. With more than 400,000 visitors a year, The Magic House was recently named the #1 national attraction for child appeal by the U.S. Zagat Family Travel Guide. Free parking. Entrance fee: $14 per person, free for children under one.

Museum of Transportation

The Museum of Transportation owns approximately 129 acres of land, and houses "one of the largest and best collections of transportation vehicles in the world", according to the Smithsonian Institution. With more than 70 locomotives, the Museum has the most complete collection of American rail power in the world, and its collection of automobiles, buses, streetcars, aircraft, horse-drawn vehicles, and riverboat material reflects the ever-changing nature of transportation. A walk through the Museum is a walk through history.

Laumeier Sculpture Park

Laumeier Sculpture Park is a 98-acre open-air museum whose focus is monumental and contemporary sculpture. It is an institution of international significance whose more than 300,000 visitors annually come to enjoy, explore, learn, and understand the complexity and beauty of monumental works of art in natural settings. The institution itself is one of a handful of open-air museums around the world. Laumeier provides high-quality learning experiences for the greater St. Louis community and for visitors from all over the world. The many changing exhibitions, concerts, educational programs, lectures, and special events developed at Laumeier Sculpture Park for all to enjoy support the mission of the institution. Powder Valley Conservation Nature Center

Since 1991, Powder Valley Conservation Nature Center has offered thousands of visitors a fresh look at Missouri's forests, fish, and wildlife. Nestled in 112 acres of oak-hickory-forest, you can hike the three miles of paved trails while enjoying the sloping rocky woods that are a haven of beautiful wildflowers, towering trees, and tangled vines. Come explore the nature center and see for yourself the value of wisely using our resources in the urban setting--and throughout the state. The Department of Conservation's special displays helps you understand the birds, mammals, fish, and reptiles commonly found in Missouri backyards, parks, and forests. Closed to pets. No entrance fee.

Mudd's Grove

This historic home, built in 1860 in the classic Greek Revival style, currently houses the Kirkwood Historical Society museum, library, and gift shop.

Mudd’s Grove has been recognized as historically significant by the National Register of Historic Places. It was purchased by the Kirkwood Historical Society in 1992. Members of the Society have been lauded by the City of Kirkwood for their personal involvement in restoring the house to its original elegance. The Society operates it as a museum and resource center.

Free Public Parking is available on streets, within our numerous public parking lots and at the Station Plaza Garages.

On-Street Parking

There are hundreds of on-street parking spaces in downtown Kirkwood that allow you to park your vehicle a few steps from the door of your destination. Most of these spaces are 2-hour parking from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday-Saturday. Additionally, there are about a dozen strategically located 15-minute parking spaces that allow for quick pickups at our stores and restaurants.

Public Parking Lots and FREE Parking on the weekends!

Enjoy free all-day parking on most parking lots on Saturdays and Sundays (refer to the shaded parking lots represented on the map image). Free two-hour parking is available on public lots on other days of the week. There are also many three-hour parking spaces on public parking lots. The three-hour spaces are usually located on the perimeter of the lot. Free public parking is also available at Kirkwood City Hall—this centrally located parking lot is a great weekend and evening option.

Please note: Lots that are not shaded on the map image, and on-street parking spaces have a two-hour time limit on Saturdays.

Station Plaza Garages

Station Plaza offers free, all-day, covered parking in two covered parking garages located off Kirkwood Road and East Madison.

St. Peter Church Parking Lot

There are 90 parking spaces available to visitors of downtown Kirkwood at St. Peter Catholic Church. Access the church’s parking lot on Clay Ave. between Argonne Dr. and Jefferson Ave.

The church’s parking lot will be available for public parking, with the exception of Sunday church service hours and other special events hosted by St. Peter.

All-Day and Long-Term Amtrak Parking

If you are planning to spend the weekday in downtown Kirkwood, you have two options. You may purchase an All-Day pass from Kirkwood City Hall at the Finance Department or in the Downtown Kirkwood Special Business District office, 130 E. Jefferson. All-Day permits are $5.00 each.

If you are going to spend the entire weekday in downtown Kirkwood or if you are taking a several-day train trip, parking on the “AMTRAK” parking lot, located near Bar Louie at 110 S. Kirkwood Road on the east side of the street, is recommended. There is a kiosk at the entrance to this parking lot that allows you to purchase an advance parking pass for $5.00 per day and you may purchase several days of parking to accommodate your travel plans. After you purchase your parking pass, park your vehicle, place the pass on your windshield and walk across the street to the Kirkwood Amtrak Station to catch your train.

Employee Parking Permits

The Downtown Kirkwood Special Business District Office administrates the Employee Parking Permit Program for the City of Kirkwood. If you are working in downtown Kirkwood and would like to purchase a parking permit, please contact the Downtown Kirkwood SBD office at 314-822-0084.
